Abigail
Sensible, diplomatic, a protector, persuasive, quick to act, brave, intelligent, respected, and long suffering. These are the characteristics of Abigail. Abigail’s gown features applique inspired by olive branches, a symbol of peacemaking and diplomacy. The scale-like quilting on the back is meant to represent armor, strength and God’s protection, since Abigail was a strong, brave and faithful woman of God.
Why I chose her
Abigail was the long-suffering wife of an ill-mannered, brash, foolish man named Nabal. When Nabal made the major misstep of disrespecting David, who had protected Nabal’s land from harm, Abigail was quick to intercede and deftly placate David, preventing the massacre of Nabal and his men. She later married David and became queen following the death of her husband. This kind of peacemaking and diplomacy is rare in men and women alike.
